WIMSA
WIMSA is a San-owned organisation with the following mission:
l
To assist the San in gaining political recognition at all levels. l To assist the San in gaining better access to resources in the following areas:
l To raise human rights awareness amongst the San communities and to provide legal assistance where requested. l To support the San communities in becoming self-sustainable by participating in appropriate development. l To network and serve as a resource information centre for San organisations, indigenous people's organisations and other support organisations at local, national, regional and international level. l To support the San in regaining their identity and pride in their cultures, thereby improving their self-esteem. l To form a Regional San Council that will be fully representative of the San in southern Africa. l To support the San communities in fighting for recognition of their own traditional leadership structures. l To raise and manage funds for the purpose of carrying out WIMSA's objectives as set out in this statement and the WIMSA constitution. l To remain committed to democratic principles, both in WIMSA's members and within its own structures.
